Kathleen was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 after spending 4 years developing a passion for family law as a law clerk for a downtown Toronto law firm. She has primarily spent her years of practice as a sole practitioner with a focus on family law working primarily in the Central West Region, making frequent appearances at the Milton and Brampton Courthouses, while also making appearances at both the Toronto and Newmarket Courthouses.
Kathleen was born and raised in Durham Region. She made the move back to Durham in 2009 and began practice here in the spring of that year. Since then she has appeared primarily at the Oshawa Court, as well as Cobourg, Peterborough and Lindsay Courthouses. She joined Borden Family Lawyers in 2015, and is happy to be part of a dedicated team devoted to excellence in family law. Kathleen is an experienced litigator who has represented clients involved in complex family law actions through to trials. She works with clients to complete negotiated Separation Agreements, Marriage Contacts and Cohabitation Agreements, Child Custody and Access Claims, Restraining Orders, Child and Spousal Support Claims, Property and Pension Division Claims, as well as Child Protection matters to name a few.
Kathleen’s approach is to work closely with her clients to canvass all potential settlement options before commencing or continuing with litigation due to the expense, both financial and emotional associated with going to court. When there is no other option, Kathleen will pursue court based claims assertively. Kathleen works hard to empathize with her clients and communicate their situation to the court while working to keep emotionally charged situations contained.
Kathleen enjoys cooking, travelling, biking, hot yoga and keeping fit. She looks forward to continued service to the Durham Region as a member of the team at Borden Family Lawyers for many years to come.
